Zelena (Rebecca Mader) dropped the ultimate bomb on “Once Upon a Time” when she revealed that she’s pregnant with Robin Hood’s (Sean Maguire) baby — seemingly pushing Regina’s (Lana Parrilla) happy ending that much farther away.

But, as executive producers Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz reminds viewers during an interview with Zap2it, people shouldn’t be caught up in the notion that a happy ending is only when you’re with the person you’re in love with.

“We’ve always tried to write on the show that people’s happy endings are not really dependent on one person. As far as Robin Hood and Regina and second chances — we’re going to get much more into that this weekend,” Kitsis teases.

That being said, Regina and Robin’s chances of being together feel as low as they ever have been. Robin Hood is a man of honor and he’d never desert the expecting mother of his child, even if she is the Wicked Witch.

Using a baby to manipulate Robin Hood is a special type of hateful, and — at least right now — puts Zelena squarely in the villain category. But even though this season has been trying so hard to blur the line between good and evil, Kitsis and Horowitz felt pushing Zelena even darker was the right choice.

“It’s interesting to write about weakness. Sometimes is we are our own worst enemies. For Zelena, green is her jealousy,” Kitsis explains. “We like to write about that and show that it’s OK. Not everyone wakes up every day and their first instinct is ‘I’m going to do the right thing the perfect way.'”

If anything could turn Zelena into a more sympathetic character, it’d be a baby — even if it was created with a villainous motive.

“This child was created out of a vengeance but that doesn’t mean it can’t turn into something positive for Zelena,” Horowitz says.

However, even if the baby is able to deter Zelena’s need for revenge, that doesn’t mean that Regina will be willing to let everything go. Resorting back to her Evil Queen ways out of anger may be another threat to her being with Robin.

“We know at one point Regina wanted to give [Zelena] a second chance. I don’t know if she’ll be so forgiving this time around,” Kitsis says. “We’ll have to see. We are going to get into all of that on Sunday night.”

For those that can’t wait until Sunday’s (May 3) episode, below is a preview that shows Regina already has a dark plan to get Robin Hood back.
